![]() Now the POI loader problem can be gotten around by using a SD card to load the POIs too. You also cannot obtain the garmindevice.xml to make a clone. So now, if you own a Mac, you cannot load POIs directly to the Unit. ![]() Guess what else doesn't work! POI loader, and MapInstall. However, I have a 2012 MacBook Pro and I only have a USB 2.0 port, and I cannot see it either. Garmin Express and Garmin BaseCamp can see it. Ok, after talking with Garmin, it appears the they know that the Mac with the Single C USB port cannot see the 55 as a Drive. I'll try to call Garmin Support tomorrow and see if I can take this any further. I'm not sure where Garmin intended to go with this. (This indicates the USB cord and USB connectors are good.) In Windows it tries to load and install drivers, but it fails to install software and won't mount the Drive. It show up in Linux as a USB drive, but won't mount with a MTB Device failed to connect. I have tried to mount it on a MAC, Windows 7, and even an Ubuntu Linux. I have tried the MTB and USB settings to no avail. You also can't g o in and delete all the extraneous files that take up space, like the needed language and help files. But without being able to mount as a Drive, you cannot get to a copy of the garmindevice.xml file to create a clone for map updating. It connects to Garmin Express and to Basecamp and you can do the usual stuff there. It seems you can no longer Mout the Unit as a Drive in you Finder(MAC) or your Directory(WINDOWS). For example, if you are loading a file named "Speed_30," but you want the default speed to be 25, you can enter a speed of 25 in Manual mode. There seems to be a problem with the New Drivesmart 55, and may be 65. You can use Manual mode to override the default speed and proximity information included in the file names of the data files you are loading. Manual mode allows you to specify the default speed and proximity alert information as needed for each data file you are loading. If you need to customize speed information for your Custom POIs, use Manual mode. If the speed or proximity information in the data file is missing or incomplete, POI Loader assumes the file is a regular POI file. POI Loader checks the file name for valid speed information and keywords to indicate proximity alerts (for example, "redlight," "camera," or "safety"). If there is speed and proximity alert information contained in your data files, POI Loader can automatically detect it by looking for key information. You can load them on your GPS device and receive a proximity alert when you are approaching the Custom POI and a speed alert when you are traveling too fast.Įxpress mode is ideal for loading Custom POIs that do not contain speed information (for example, restaurants, public swimming pools, or ATMs) or Custom POIs containing speed information that you do not need to modify. They can include new restaurants, campsites, shopping centers, or any other type of place.Ĭustom POIs can also include stoplights or school zones that contain speed and proximity alert information. The unit will also allow you to search for and navigate to the loaded points of interest.Ĭustom POIs are places on the map that supplement your existing map data. ![]() With POI Loader for Windows, you can configure the unit to alert you when you are within a certain distance of a point or if you are driving over a certain speed near a point perfect to warn you about upcoming schools zones and redlight and speed cameras. The input files can be downloaded from the internet or you can create your own. POI Loader for Windows allows you to load custom points of interest into your unit. ![]()
